Integrating Gender into Lebanese Institutions

Integrating Gender into Lebanese Institutions

Summary

The Integrating Gender into Lebanese Institutions (IGLI) is a three-years project, funded by the Government of Canada, aimed at contributing to the improved equality and human rights of women and girls in Lebanon. The project establishes a two-pronged gender mainstreaming approach focused on supporting gender integration in national institutions and the   Lebanon Crisis Response Plan.

Background

The changing political, economic, and social climates in Lebanon continue to exacerbate pre-existing gender inequalities and discrimination while preventing Lebanese and refugee women and girls from realizing their human rights and intensifying their poverty and marginalization. Although Lebanon has ratified the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the promotion of gender-responsive policies and decision-making is hindered by insufficient gender analysis data and evidence, limited technical capacities for gender mainstreaming and awareness on its related benefits, and limited accountability for the implementation of gender related standards.

Project outcome

The project aims to:

  • Strengthen institutional mechanisms and policies for improving and promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

  • Strengthen LCRP partners’ capacities to deliver a more gender-based response to the impact of the crisis (policies, strategies, programmes, and projects).

GESI Component:

IGLI is a gender-standalone project in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, which recognizes gender equality as a crucial driver to progress across all the 17 goals.
