Grants for Farmers, Cooperatives, and Farmers' Associations

 

This grant, implemented by UNDP under the GATE project, provides funding for climate-smart investments that enhance productivity, resilience, and market opportunities for farmers, cooperatives, and farmers' associations in Lebanon, supporting the recovery and sustainable transformation of the agricultural sector.

The Green Agri-food transformation for economic recovery (GATE) project is signed between the Lebanese Government represented by the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) and the World Bank, aimed at improving the resilience of farmers and small and medium enterprises in the Lebanese agri-food sector.

    Who Can Apply?Registered agricultural cooperatives operating in agri-food value chains with at least two cumulative years of operation since 2019.

    Eligible ActivitiesClimate-smart infrastructure, irrigation, renewable energy, processing equipment, storage facilities, food safety improvements, certification, packaging, marketing activities, rehabilitation of damaged assets, and raw materials.
    Registration RequirementsRegistered with the General Directorate of Cooperatives and the Ministry of Finance.
    Financial DocumentationBalance sheet submitted to the General Directorate of Cooperatives (GDC).
    Operational ExperienceAt least 2 cumulative years of operation since 2019 (excluding conflict-related disruptions).
    Additional SupportTechnical assistance for selected grantees.
    New CooperativesCooperatives established within the last fiscal year must provide incorporation documents and/or their social and economic proposal.

    Matching Contribution20% (10% for women farmers)
    Eligible ActivitiesIrrigation systems, renewable energy, greenhouses, seeds and seedlings, livestock and poultry restocking, beekeeping equipment, agricultural tools and machinery, storage, processing, packaging, quality inputs, and rehabilitation of damaged assets.
    Farmers RegistryRegistered, or willing to register, in the Ministry of Agriculture Farmers Registry.
    Farming ExperienceActively engaged in agricultural production during the last 2 years (excluding conflict-related disruptions).
    Farm SizeMust fall within the defined smallholder thresholds for crops, livestock, poultry, or beekeeping.
    Eligible Value ChainsMust operate in an eligible agricultural or agri-food value chain in line with Year 1 priorities.
    Additional SupportTechnical assistance and support to develop a simple climate-smart business plan.
    Matching Contribution20% (10% for women farmers)

    2. Registered or willing to register in the Ministry of Agriculture Farmers Registry.
    3. Actively engaged in agricultural production during the last two years.
    4. Meets smallholder size thresholds.
    5. Operating in an eligible value chain.
    6. Able to provide matching contribution.
    7. Complete application package submitted.

    Applications will undergo a thorough evaluation process. Results will be communicated by email and shortlisted applicants will be invited to the next stage. Applications must be submitted by the deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
