Call for Applications: "Training of Young Actors on Combating Hate Speech and Fake News and Launching Media Campaigns"
Background
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with funding from the German Government through KfW Development Bank, is committed to raising awareness on the negative impact of fake news and hate speech at the national and local level in Lebanon.
In line with its peacebuilding efforts, this marks the fourth year in a row that UNDP has launched this initiative, reaffirming its dedication to equipping aspiring journalists and media students with the skills needed to identify and combat fake news and hate speech. Through intensive training programs, participants will gain the tools to make meaningful contributions to the cause, both individually and collectively, while also launching impactful media campaigns in their communities.
Participants will also have the exclusive opportunity to join the award-winning Sawab Initiative, a youth-led fact-checking platform launched by UNDP in Lebanon. Accessible via WhatsApp and various social media channels, Sawab provides a space for verifying news and ensuring the dissemination of accurate information. Participants will also have the chance to publish their original work on the Salam wa Kalam digital media platform, showcasing unique storytelling on key issues in the fields of climate change, gender equality, education, social justice, and beyond.
If you have a genuine passion for making a positive impact on society and reducing conflict and tensions, this is an incredible opportunity for you to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and network to combat and verify fake news, and advance your career in conflict-sensitive journalism and ethical reporting.
By joining this program, you will:
- Learn techniques and strategies to combat misinformation and hate speech effectively.
- Master fact-checking tools to ensure accurate and reliable information.
- Develop your storytelling skills to document and share compelling stories from your community and beyond, adopting a conflict-sensitive and inclusive approach.

- We invite students and graduates aged 20–29 from media faculties or related fields across Lebanon to apply.
