Kyrgyz Parliament Elections 2021: candidates learned about the new peculiarities in electoral system and principles of financing the election campaigns

Bishkek, 24 September, 2021 – On September 23 – October 11 2021 Kyrgyzstan Electoral Support Programme of UNDP and the Central Election Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic organized trainings on political finance of election campaigns for candidates and political parties, as well as other participants of electoral process. It will be 27 trainings throughout the country in all provinces.

During the trainings participants will get acquainted with the new peculiarities in electoral system in Kyrgyz Republic, learned about the restrictions on the income and expenses of political parties and candidates on political financing, updated knowledge about the principles of reporting of political parties and candidates.

The trainings help to understand deeper the new types and rules in the electoral process for candidates and political parties participating in the parliament elections in November 2021, as well as update knowledges on principles and rules of the political financing. We also learnt about the responsibilities incurred in case of violation of these principles and rules. I hope that the knowledge gained will allow representatives of civil society and political parties to contribute to the development of the election process in the Kyrgyz Republic”, - said Bakytbek Samakov, elections expert of Public Fund “Common Cause” based in Kyrgyzstan.

Political finance processes once regulated through the legal framework, structures and institutes, it allows to solve issues of election campaigns and political parties related to funding on one hand.

On the other hand, it serves as a basis of the democratic process through ensuring transparency of the election process, as well as safeguarding the accountability of the political parties and candidates to voters, thus promote mutual trust and sustain peaceful relations.

Elections to the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic under the new mixed electoral system will take place on November 28, 2021. The Central Election Commission, with the support of the UNDP Election Support Program and other partners, started national information campaign for the population, as well as providing trainings for all participants of the electoral process.

The UNDP Election Support Program in the Kyrgyz Republic, with financial assistance from the Governments of Japan, Germany and Switzerland, is supporting the Central Election Commission in technical equipment, conducting trainings and information campaigns on the electoral process until the end of 2021.
