14.07.2023 / Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan - Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Japarov received UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Louise Chamberlain on the occasion of the completion of her mission in the country.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of sustainable development, finance, investment, ecology and the "green" economy.

The head of the Cabinet expressed gratitude to the UNDP mission in the Kyrgyz Republic for fruitful cooperation and effective assistance in priority areas of the country's development. He also noted that the UNDP Resident Representative witnessed significant changes in the Kyrgyz Republic, and also “was here” during the peak of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The UNDP mission, under her leadership, provided the country with valuable assistance in the fight against coronavirus.

“Regardless of the place of your further activity, we will always be glad to welcome you to the Kyrgyz land as a good friend,” Akylbek Zhaparov noted and expressed his readiness to continue supporting all ongoing UNDP projects in the country.

In turn, Louise Chamberlain thanked the head of the Cabinet for the constant assistance in the implementation of UNDP programs and noted that the UNDP mission will ensure the continuity of projects and work on the implementation of programs aimed at sustainable development.

In addition, Louise Chamberlain outlined the areas of UNDP in Kyrgyzstan, which are given special attention, in particular, mentioning the development financing strategy and the development program for Batken province.

She noted that in line with the statement of UN Secretary-General António Guterres on supporting developing countries, UNDP is ready to assist in mobilizing private financing for large-scale investments in combating climate change, where the main indicator of development will be the reduction of poverty in the country.

The head of the Cabinet noted that in recent years, the attention of state policy has been focused on the development of human capital, especially on the protection of vulnerable segments of the population.

“We have launched a number of projects aimed at supporting people below the poverty line and fully support the initiative of the UN Secretary General. At the beginning of this year, partner countries and international organizations were invited to consider the possibility of exchanging Kyrgyzstan's external debt for "green" projects to improve the environmental situation in the world. We need more investment in the green economy to effectively combat climate change and achieve carbon neutrality,” the Prime Minister stressed.

At the end of the meeting, for a significant contribution to the development of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and UNDP, as well as for organizing assistance in the fight against the spread of COVID-19, Akylbek Japarov presented Louise Chamberlain with a Certificate of Honor from the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic.
