National UNDP Day Proclamation 2026

The Governor-General of Jamaica has issued a National UNDP Day Proclamation for 26 January 2026 to mark the 50th anniversary of the UNDP Multi Country Office in Jamaica. The Proclamation is reproduced word for word here, while the document is attached for download.

A PROCLAMATION By His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir PATRICK LINTON ALLEN, Member of the Order of the Nation, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Commander of the Order of Distinction, Knight of Grace of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, Governor-General of Jamaica.

WHEREAS the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Multi-Country Office in Jamaica established on the Twenty-sixth day of January, Nineteen Hundred and Seventy-six is commemorating its Fiftieth Year of operations in Jamaica;
AND WHEREAS it is our solemn duty and enduring desire to see Jamaica fully realize its development aspirations and potential, leaving no one behind;
AND WHEREAS the pursuit of this noble vision requires a sustainable, inclusive and resilient pathway to development, embraced as a national imperative for Jamaica;
AND WHEREAS we recognize the vital role of the UNDP in standing in solidarity with Jamaica on this important journey;
AND WHEREAS the UNDP has played a vital role in supporting a sustainable, inclusive and resilient approach to development in Jamaica since the official operationalization of its Multi-Country Office in Kingston Fifty years ago;
AND WHEREAS the UNDP has supported Jamaica in achieving significant development milestones related to poverty reduction, climate and disaster risk mitigation and adaptation; citizen safety and security; democratic governance, biodiversity and livelihoods sustainability; crisis resilience and resilient recovery from disasters;
AND WHEREAS it is fitting and proper that the year Two Thousand and Twenty-six be set aside to raise awareness on the challenges and opportunities for sustainable, inclusive and resilient pathways of development, to recognize the important legacy of past cooperation in achieving local results, and to encourage collective resolve to continue such partnerships on Jamaica's long term development;
NOW THEREFORE, I, PATRICK LINTON ALLEN, Member of the Order of the Nation, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Commander of the Order of Distinction, Knight of Grace of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, Governor-General of Jamaica, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM the 26th day of January, 2026 as National UNDP Day and encourage all citizens to:
• unite in a spirit of reflection upon our important achievements;
• recommit ourselves to continue the path ahead, and
• to express appreciation for the valued role of the UNDP in standing in solidarity and partnership over the past 50 years.
I call upon our Government, community groups, public and private institutions, and citizens across our great nation to mark this milestone through meaningful activities that foster sustainability, inclusion, and resilience.
I further encourage Jamaicans to embody these values not only on this day but throughout the year.
