Gender Equality

UNDP's Signature Solution number 6 - Women's empowerment and gender equality - is central to the mandate of UNDP and intrinsic to its development approach across our projects portfolio. This effort includes advocating for equal rights, combatting discriminatory practices and challenging the roles and stereotypes that can lead to inequalities and exclusion. UNDP is committed to supporting capacity development of its national partners to adopt approaches that advance gender equality and take account of the full range of their contributions to development. UNDP currently partners with United Nations agencies to address the scourge of gender based violence through the European Union-funded Spotlight Initiative. UNDP is charged with the responsibility of advancing legislative reform, establishing Domestic Violence Intervention Centres and bolstering national capacity to track injuries arising from incidences of violence against women and girls. With support from Global Affairs Canada UNDP is partnering with government to improve climate resilience for women and girls and key vulnerable populations and future generations in the Caribbean. The project will focus on gender-responsive implementation of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) focusing on sectors that have the greatest beneficial impact for women and girls.
