Background

The Government of India's (GoI's) Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) aims to provide access to vaccines to pregnant women and children. As per HMIS (2022-23), the Penta-3 coverage in India is 94%, however, there are an estimated 1.5 million unvaccinated and under-vaccinated children.

In partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the National Health Mission, Gavi, WHO, and UNICEF, UNDP will promote innovative and scalable solutions on solutions on digitalization in the health sector, in an inclusive manner, to ensure universal vaccination of all pregnant women and children. This system will also support the GoI in tackling any future health emergencies effectively and efficiently. UNDP will build on its previous work with the MoHFW on the Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN) to digitalize the vaccine supply chain and Co-WIN for the digitalization of COVID vaccination beneficiary management. Besides, UNDP will support data triangulation of multiple data sets in place to monitor immunization services and strengthen data review mechanisms at the last mile.

This project will provide technical assistance for a robust and resilient immunization system. UNDP will digitalize all aspects of registration & vaccination of pregnant women and children, track the real-time vaccination status of all the vaccines offered by the national immunization programme, and closely monitor the field mobilization of beneficiaries, to improve the efficiency of the vaccination system in India.
