Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment

 

The UNDP Guinea-Bissau Gender Strategy for the period 2022-2026 sets out priorities for promoting gender equality based on the aforementioned Global Strategy 2022-2025, as well as the Country Program Document 2022-2026 – CPD, and develops strategic guidelines, methodologies, and objectives to refine UNDP GB's response in support of national organizations in consolidating gender equality and women's empowerment, in accordance with the targets set out in Sustainable Development Goal 5 1 - Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. It confirms the commitment of the UNDP Guinea-Bissau Country Office to continue to optimally integrate gender mainstreaming by capitalizing on achievements and strengthening existing institutional mechanisms in order to accelerate progress towards gender equality and women's empowerment, both at the office level and at the national level in close partnership with the Guinea-Bissau’s government.

Our work focuses in:

  • Integration of gender throughout the programme cycle (design, planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation)

  • Strengthening staff capacities in the area of gender with a view to promoting a more gender-sensitive institutional culture

  • Revitalizing internal gender structures 4. Priority objective

  • Strengthening partnerships to maximize the impact on gender priorities.

  • Strengthening women's participation and leadership

  • Prevention and responses to GBV gender-based violence in Guinea-Bissau

  • Response to climate change and resilience

Strengthening Digital Skills for Justice Sector Professionals in Guinea-Bissau

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with national institutions, has successfully concluded a one-month training on Digital Literacy Applied to the Professional Context, reinforcing essential digital competencies within Guinea-Bissau’s justice sector.
The training culminated in a certificate award ceremony for 25 agents of the Judicial Police (PJ), held in the presence of the Director of the Judicial Police, Domingos Correia, and the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Carlos Dinis.
Over the course of the programme, more than 200 professionals from the justice sector and civil society organizations were equipped with practical skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These competencies are critical to improving efficiency, communication, and data management in daily professional activities.
Implemented under the Justiça pa tudu Djintis project funded by European Union and +Digit@l, this initiative contributes to strengthening institutional capacity and advancing digital transformation in the justice sector.
UNDP remains committed to supporting capacity development and digital inclusion as key drivers of sustainable development and good governance.

 

On International Women’s Day, real-life stories carry far more weight than any prepared speech. And that is exactly what this event demonstrated.

In the video “WOMEN’S DAY SPECIAL – MARCH 8, 2026 – UNDP,” women shared experiences, challenges, and achievements that reflect the reality of many other women every day. The conversation brought together women’s voices discussing leadership, social participation, equality, and the space women continue to carve out through courage and persistence.

More than just a tribute, the discussion reinforces an important point: celebrating March 8 also means listening to, recognizing, and supporting women in different sectors of society.

Barriers still exist. Inequalities still exist. But there are also women who continue to blaze trails, inspiring others and showing that transformation happens when there is opportunity, unity, and a voice.

May this day be a reminder of respect, appreciation, and commitment to a more just society for all.

O PNUD Guiné-Bissau realiza sessão de consultas com Organizações da Sociedade Civil (OSC), no âmbito do processo de atualização da Estratégia para a Igualdade de Género do PNUD no país.

O PNUD Guiné-Bissau realizou uma sessão de consultas com Organizações da Sociedade Civil (OSC), no âmbito do processo de atualização da Estratégia para a Igualdade de Género do PNUD no país.
A sessão reuniu representantes de diferentes organizações e atores da sociedade civil para promover um diálogo inclusivo sobre os principais desafios, prioridades e oportunidades para o avanço da igualdade de género e o empoderamento das mulheres e raparigas na Guiné-Bissau.
Os contributos recolhidos irão apoiar a definição de uma estratégia mais participativa, alinhada com as realidades nacionais e orientada para soluções que reforcem os direitos, a participação e a inclusão das mulheres e de grupos em situação de vulnerabilidade.
Este documento define as prioridades para a promoção da igualdade de género baseando-se na Estratégia Global do PNUD 2022-2025, assim como no Documento de Programa do País 2022-2026 – CPD e desenvolve as orientações estratégicas, as metodologias e os objectivos para mehorar a resposta do PNUD GB em apoio às organizações nacionais na consolidação da igualdade de género e autonomização das mulheres, de acordo com as metas estabelecidas no Objectivo de Desenvolvimento Sustentável n.º 5 - Alcançar a igualdade de género e empoderar todas as mulheres e raparigas.
O PNUD reafirma o seu compromisso de continuar a trabalhar em estreita colaboração com a sociedade civil e os parceiros nacionais na promoção de uma sociedade mais justa, inclusiva e equitativa, onde ninguém seja deixado para trás.
