Our Focus

Democratic Governance

Promoting good governance and sustaining peace

UNDP supports the Government of Guinea-Bissau in building responsive and accountable institutions at all levels of governance, defending the rule of law and human rights and promoting peaceful and inclusive societies. In order to build a resilient foundation for peace and development, we help the country improve inclusive political processes and institutions by supporting the voice and participation of all, especially women and youth. We seek to identify and empower change agents to transform social dynamics and the political sphere to sustain peace and achieve SDS 16 by 2030.

Access to Justice

The defence of the rule of law and access to justice are fundamental to the prevention of human rights violations and to ensuring equitable access for all to quality public services. UNDP supports the government in accessing justice and developing a more effective justice system through improved legal frameworks.

NaNôMon

NaNôMon (Creole "in your hands") is a digital partnership platform that provides an online infrastructure to better coordinate, plan and develop a response to common needs. The platform connects communities with all territorial and development actors, who support local development, in order to identify and replicate innovative solutions for the benefit of the most vulnerable groups. Combating drug trafficking and transnational organized crime

Trade in illicit substances is understraining the achievement of the SDDs in insignificant ways, to cinder legitimate economic activity, to deprive governments of revenue for investments in vital public services and to the global erosion of states and individuals' ability to achieve basic long-term social and economic development objectives. UNDP supports state institutions to prevent, investigate and prosecute drug trafficking and transnational organized crime more effectively, reducing the country's sources of fragility, while supporting, together with the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime, the creation of a CSO Observatory for the illicit economy.

Accountability incubator

Guinea-Bissau has a vibrant youth with ideas to improve the responsibility and transparency of institutions. In collaboration with accountability lab and odg, UNDP is introducing the virtual accountability incubator in Guinea-Bissau to help young people increase accountability and transparency in their response to COVID-19 and not only to support them in developing ideas, collaborating and creating a positive sense of collective energy.

UNDP strives to establish a relationship of trust between the government and citizens by strengthening supervisory mechanisms for better accountability, transparency and the fight against corruption.

The Leadership Academy

Inclusive decision-making and equal participation are essential for sustainable peace and development. UNDP seeks and empowers change agents who can transform social dynamics and the political sphere. THE UNDP Leadership Academy provides training tailored to different stakeholder groups and provides them with the tools and mentalities essential to contribute effectively to national political processes and systemic reforms.
