Biodiversity Research in Georgia's Protected Areas

The set of publications presents the results of extensive field research conducted in Georgia’s Protected Areas, offering a comprehensive assessment of biodiversity status and management. These studies cover a wide range of species, habitats, and ecosystems, providing critical insights into population trends, habitat conditions, and conservation challenges.
Publications include detailed monitoring reports on the following species:
- Birds: Black Grouse, Caspian Snowcock, Vultures, Storks, Common Pheasant, White-Winged Redstart, Great Rosefinch, Velvet Scoter, Common Crane, Ruddy Shelduck, Armenian Gull, Dalmatian Pelican, Great White Pelican, and migratory waterfowl
- Mammals: Eastern Tur, Red Deer, Bezoar Goat, Brown Bear (including DNA analysis), Lynx, and other mammals in selected protected areas
- Aquatic Life: Brown Trout
- Plants and Ecosystems: Sweet chestnut, forest, grasslands and pastures
Additional reports address invasive plant species and provide recommendations for forest recovery.
The publications were developed under the joint UNDP/GEF/CNF initiative to strengthen the financial sustainability and management of Georgia’s 12 protected areas.
