The first annual Peacebuilding Week will take place on 22-26 June 2026. The week will mark the 20th anniversary of both the Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) and the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC). Marking two decades of collective efforts worldwide, the week will offer an inclusive space for local, national and international champions to celebrate peacebuilding’s achievements and to look ahead to a new generation of efforts.
UNDP’s engagement during Peacebuilding Week will highlight UNDP’s role as a driver of innovation, inclusion, and impact—showcasing evidence-based approaches, cross-border solutions, and partnerships that address the root causes of conflict and build sustainable peace.
- UNDP has been the largest and most consistent implementer of PBF-financed projects since the Fund’s inception in 2006, involved in over half (54%) of all projects and delivering almost two-fifths (38%) of total PBF investments (over $734 million).
- UNDP’s leadership is recognized not only in project delivery but also in fostering collaboration across more than 20 UN entities, in addition to development partners, civil society, and NGOs.
- UNDP hosts the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office, which administers PBF financing, administers PBF Secretariats at country level, where it facilitates access to PBF financing by smaller UN agencies and civil society organisations.
- Peace and Development Advisors deployed jointly by UNDP and DPPA to about 50 Resident Coordinator’s Offices play a central role in the design of PBF projects. In sum, UNDP’s operational backbone and delivery capacity are critical to the success of PBF investments at country level.
