Project Summary

Through this project, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage (TCCH) aimed to raise awareness and address the educational gap in the field of cultural heritage that exists, particularly among younger generations living in Cyprus. UNDP and TCCH sought to promote awareness and respect for the protection of the island’s cultural heritage. This effort also contributed to building much-needed confidence among all those living in Cyprus, thereby supporting both the preservation of cultural heritage and broader reconciliation efforts.

This is a project of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage. This website was made possible through support provided by the United States Department of State. The overall project of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage is mainly funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP.

Platform Launch and Project Overview
As part of the project, an interactive web-based learning environment was developed to engage students in the protection and promotion of the cultural heritage of Turkish Cypriots, Greek Cypriots, and other communities across Cyprus.

Four interactive educational modules were created for students aged 12–15, accompanied by a dedicated teaching plan for educators. To complement the learning experience, interactive activities focusing on cultural heritage were carried out in four pilot areas, featuring religious buildings, archaeological sites, fortifications, and secular buildings.

This initiative aimed to deepen participants’ knowledge and encourage their active involvement in preserving and promoting Cyprus’s diverse and shared cultural heritage.

Community Presentations
Following the launch, two additional presentations were held in Famagusta and Nicosia. These sessions introduced the platform to local communities, academics, partners, and educators, including members of teacher associations, non-formal education trainers, and students.

Participants across these events shared positive feedback and valuable insights, and many expressed interest in helping to share the platform with a wider audience.
