Scoping Paper III for 2016 High-level Policy Forum on Global Governance “Belt and Road”: A New Path to Regional Development

Developing transport corridors that deliver sustained economic, social and environmental benefits is a core goal of the Belt and Road Initiative. The paper examines the potential of transport corridors to deliver these outcomes. The paper first reviews previous experiences in the implementation of transportation infrastructure projects and economic corridors. Then it looks at best practices in policy interventions for sustainable development and how these may be applied to corridor development. The aim of the paper is to draw learnings for useful and feasible action items on policymaking in BRI corridors development that achieve sustainable development.
