Leveraging Blended Finance for Sustainable Development Financing: Summary Note on Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing Roundtables

March 23, 2026

As the UN 2030 Agenda faces an annual financing gap of over USD 4 trillion, mobilizing private capital for sustainable development has become more urgent than ever. This summary note captures key insights from two UNDP China roundtables on blended finance, held in November 2024 and June 2025 with the support of the European Union, and explores how public, philanthropic, and commercial capital can work together to scale financing for the SDGs. It highlights practical lessons on catalyzing private investment, managing risk and guarantee instruments, strengthening project pipelines, building institutional capacity, and advancing collaborative pathways to scale up sustainable development finance from “billions to trillions.”
