April 2, 2024
BIH Golden Seal

In a remarkable acknowledgment of its dedication to gender equality, the UNDP Bosnia and Herzegovina Country office has been distinguished with the Gold Gender Seal among 66 UNDP Country Offices worldwide. Standing as one of the nine offices globally to attain this esteemed recognition, the BiH office exemplifies a commitment to fostering gender equality within the organization and beyond. The Gender Equality Seal initiative serves as a beacon, encouraging UNDP offices to infuse gender considerations across all facets of their development efforts.

During the award ceremony, UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner and Regional Directors presented the Gender Seal certifications, acknowledging the exemplary performance of the UNDP BiH office in promoting gender equality.

"Embracing the Gender Equality Seal process has been an immensely fulfilling journey for us. This transformative experience has not only enriched our perspectives but reaffirmed our unwavering commitment to gender equality. It stands as a beacon of inspiration to our national partners, signaling our steadfast dedication to nurturing an inclusive and equitable environment."
Ms. Narine Sahakyan, Resident Representative a.i. of UNDP in BiH

The Gender Equality Seal serves as a platform to build capacities and support transformative gender equality results. Unlike traditional gender audits or evaluations, the Seal process encourages inclusive and open dialogue, fostering out-of-the-box thinking to address gender gaps effectively.

The Gender Equality Seal benchmarking exercise proposes three levels of certification: Gold, Silver, and Bronze, with Country Offices certified based on a review of their gender equality accomplishments. For the UNDP BiH office, receiving the Gold Gender Seal highlights its exemplary performance in promoting gender equality as an integral part of its organizational work, programming, and operations.

Reflecting on this achievement, Narine Sahakyan, UNDP Resident Representative a.i. in BiH, expressed the office's pride, stating:

"Achieving the 'Gold' standard is not merely a milestone; it's a pledge to continuously expand our knowledge, leverage innovation and data for positive change, and broaden our network of partnerships."

This recognition comes as the result of the office's exceptional dedication to advancing gender equality as an integral part of its organizational work, programming, and operations. The Gold Seal award underscores the UNDP BiH office's commitment to advancing gender equality and marks a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"The Gender Equality Seal is all about the journey of transformation. The most rewarding part is the creativity and team spirit it generated, and the partnerships it forged to act collectively towards improving gender outcomes in Bosnia and Herzegovina."
Nera Monir Divan, Gender Advisor, UNDP Bosnia and Herzegovina
