"for Tomorrow: The Documentary" brought together UNDP and partners to discuss the challenges our world faced with

The United Nations Development Programme in Azerbaijan celebrated the national premiere of “for Tomorrow: The Documentary” at the YARAT Contemporary Art Centre. The film narrated by actor Daisy Ridley (Star Wars) shines the spotlight on inspirational local champions who are holding the answers to the most pressing global challenges of today.

The for Tomorrow initiative celebrates grassroots innovators globally who are solving local challenges by making cities safer, more inclusive, resilient and sustainable. It intersects with the work done by the 91 UNDP Accelerator Labs across 115 countries, who are promoting grassroots-led solutions as a tool to decolonize development and to design institutions to learn from people’s ideas, inventions and knowledge. The documentary features five grassroots innovations selected among the solutions have been shared by people from all over the world.

"We celebrate the national premiere of “The Documentary” in Baku, which was screened in several major cities of the world and placed on platforms such as YouTube.com and Amazon.com, to remind our promises for tomorrow to all our partners and like-minded people once again. This documentary demonstrates how usual people from the communities around the world are united in achieving the sustainable development goals. The example of Azerbaijan is a bright example of how government organization sensitive approached to the innovative idea from the grassroots and turned it into a solution," said Nuno Queiros, United Nations Development Program Resident Representative a.i. in Azerbaijan.

“Hyundai Motor Company and its local distributor in Azerbaijan, Auto Azerbaijan, constantly support the UN Sustainable Development Goals initiative and other similar global challenges, and consider it a mission to be one of the leading contributors to solve the global problems facing our planet,” – noted Emil Ismayilov, director of Auto Azerbaijan.

Bakhtiyar Mammadov, head of the press service and public relations department of "Baku Metropoliten" CJSC, drew attention to the significant specifics of the "Accessible metro" project. He said that this project has an important role and influence in accelerating the development of social integration, inclusiveness, communication, public opinion in the society.

Jamila Mammadli, activist, actress and one of the heroes thanked UNDP and “For tomorrow” team for selecting her for “The documentary”. “But I have to say that, a special thanks go to the hundreds of people who liked, shared and supported my short video criticizing the obstacles impeding me to get on the subway,” – added Jamila Mammadli.

The partners of UNDP - heads and representatives of international organizations and embassies, state institutions, private companies – attended the national premiere.
