EU and UNDP team up to launch a new TV Studio in Baku

May 17, 2023

The European Union (EU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the State Agency on Vocational Education (SAVE) held an opening event for a new Television (TV) Studio located in the Buzovna area of Baku.

The TV studio was reconstructed in the Baku State Vocational Education Centre on Culture and Crafts as part of the EU-funded “VET for the Future” project, which is implemented by UNDP. The opening event of the studio brought together the deputy Minister of Science and Education İdris İsayev, the EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko and the UNDP Resident Representative a.i. Nuno Queirós, the representatives from the Institute of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Education Quality Assurance Agency as well as other official representatives and the education experts.

By providing a modern and advanced learning space, the studio aims to support students and other users to produce creative industry products and improve their vocational skills. The TV studio is expected to be a hub for the development and dissemination of digital learning resources and to support production works for different specializations in accordance with the market demands while considering training needs of all.

The TV Studio is equipped with the latest technology available in the media industry including cameras and lighting facilities, voice recording devices and relevant auxiliary tools. The studio has a classroom, a voice recording studio, professional video editing stations, a producer room and fully soundproofed studio stages offering a total of 115 square meters of filming space. The Studio offers an inclusive learning environment and facilities to master a wide range of professions related to video making, audio/sound, lighting, make-up, as well as the organization of creative events.

The reconstruction activities are carried out under the project’s pillar on the infrastructure and equipment modernization in the VET providers. This TV studio is expected to create significant learning and employment opportunities for women and men and attract more youth into the vocational education and training. It will also contribute to developing a sustainable creative industry by experimenting, research and further potential collaborations in education.

The supportive reconstruction works are realised by the “VET for the future: development of VET providers' excellence in Azerbaijan” project, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP with SAVE. The project aims to support the modernisation of VET providers in Azerbaijan and increase the labour market relevance of vocational education.
