Appreciation to Denmark, Norway, and Sweden: Standing with Ukraine’s Recovery

As Ukraine continues the difficult journey from crisis to recovery, the support of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden has been a powerful expression of Scandinavian solidarity, shared values, and unwavering commitment to human dignity. Through their partnership with UNDP in Ukraine, the three Scandinavian countries are helping communities restore essential services, rebuild livelihoods, strengthen local institutions, and create the conditions for a more resilient future.

The stories featured in this exhibition are not stories of victimhood. They are stories of determination, innovation, and hope. They introduce Scandinavian audiences to Ukrainians who are continuing to rebuild their communities despite the ongoing realities of war: a scientist developing solutions to reduce industrial pollution under blackout conditions; a young community leader helping veterans reconnect with civilian life; a veteran creating inclusive pottery after losing his sight and legs in combat; a farmer cultivating land threatened by mines; and doctors, energy workers, deminers, poets, entrepreneurs and local officials who refuse to give up on their communities.

These individuals represent thousands of Ukrainians who are proving every day that recovery begins long before the war ends.

Hørlyck’s powerful visual storytelling offers a unique window into the realities of life in Ukraine, while highlighting how international partnerships help transform resilience into recovery.

For the Scandinavian countries, which have long championed peace, equality, sustainable development and international cooperation, these stories demonstrate the tangible impact of their development assistance. They show how investments in local recovery help restore not only infrastructure, but also opportunity, dignity, and hope.
