Message from UNDP Ukraine on the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism campaign

Auke Lootsma, UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine

November 29, 2025

From 25 November to 10 December, the 16 Days of Activism campaign focuses on violence against women and girls in Ukraine.

This violence is made worse by the ongoing war.

Stress, displacement, and uncertainty increase risks for women and families.

Last year, over 180,000 people sought help. It is a big number.

But behind every statistic is an individual fighting to rebuild their life.

This year’s theme is “Small Things Matter.” It reminds us that simple acts of kindness can have a huge impact.

A neighbour checking in.

A teacher who listens.

A friend saying, “I’m here for you.”

At UNDP, we are committed to making support accessible.

We ensure responses are timely.

And we make sure survivors are never left alone.

Even the smallest gesture can change someone's life.

So today, I urge you to listen, support, and take action.

Because small things matter.

When added together, they create real, lasting change.
