Emergency Legal Aid to counter COVID-19

Emergency Legal Aid to counter COVID-19

September 10, 2020

Analytical Report

The spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the global scale of which is growing dramatically every day, and the quarantine restrictions that the Ukrainian government was forced to impose in response to this threat in March 2020 have created and continue to create numerous negative consequences for individuals as well as communities and society as a whole. Millions of Ukrainians face the threat or loss of work, livelihood, housing, health and life.

Timely legal assistance to those people who have found themselves in difficult life circumstances as a result of a pandemic or have been directly exposed to a situation in which they have suffered violations of their rights can significantly reduce the negative impact of these and other threats posed by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

This report presents the results of the analysis of legal aid provided by specialized civil society organizations —  members of the Legal Development Network - during the quarantine restrictions established by the Government of Ukraine in response to the spread of acute respiratory syndrome COVID-19 (from March 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020).

The initiative is supported by the UNDP project “Civil Society for Enhanced Democracy and Human Rights in Ukraine”, which is implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
