Mykolaiv Strategic Partnership
Project Summary:
The Mykolaiv Strategic Partnership is the next phase of the flagship partnership between Denmark, Mykolaiv and UNDP, building on the three years of work under the Mykolaiv Recovered project. Moving beyond stabilization and immediate needs, the partnership focuses on the recovery and longer-term development. Starting on 1 July 2025 and running until 30 June 2028, the initiative is being implemented in close consultation with the Mykolaiv regional and city authorities to ensure a coordinated and effective response.
The partnership applies UNDP’s Area‑Based Recovery (ABR) approach, offering war-affected communities in Mykolaiv Oblast tailored packages of support that respond to their specific context and needs. This framework employs an integrated, participatory and inclusive methodology to advance recovery and development for those most affected by the war, including veterans, internally displaced persons, returnees, people with disabilities and youth. Particular attention is paid to supporting veterans and their families through a community‑based reintegration approach, addressing their distinct challenges such as reintegration, mental health needs and economic recovery.
The ABR approach also strengthens the capacity of local authorities to align with the future EU regional development agenda and to leverage IFI and EU financing instruments that promote infrastructure investment, inclusive economic growth, reduction of regional disparities and progress toward EU accession.
Key areas of intervention:
- Strengthening the capacities of local authorities to plan and lead the reconstruction and recovery process, fulfill their responsibilities under decentralization reform and prepare for the process of EU accession.
- Improving living conditions through the physical reconstruction of critical and social infrastructure and increasing the provision of and access to quality public services in alignment with the strategic plans of the authorities.
- Facilitating rapid economic recovery to provide sustainable employment or livelihood opportunities.
