Kyiv, 9 April 2024 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine has handed over cryptographic, network and switching equipment to Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, which strengthened the operation of Diia's infrastructure and protected the uninterrupted provision of social services to citizens.

It was purchased with the aid of funding from the Government of Japan as part of the “DIA Support Project,” which is implemented by the UNDP in Ukraine.

The equipment, in particular, helps provide secure communication between data centres and the computer network elements responsible for the operation of all services and products of the Diia ecosystem, such as Diia.Education, Diia.Business and other portals. In addition, the new equipment increases the level of fault tolerance of information systems, meaning that they will continue to function even in the case of malfunctions or cyberattacks.

The equipment will increase the level of protection and ensure the stable operation of the state information systems responsible for the provision of public e-services, said Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Development of Education, Science and Technologies — Minister of Digital Transformation.

“The Ministry of Digital Transformation is constantly working to strengthen the security of Diia,” Fedorov said. “The most important thing for us is to ensure that all the products we create are protected. So our team analyses and predicts all possible cyberattacks and threats. We regularly assess the level of system security to identify vulnerabilities and eliminate deficiencies.”

“This equipment makes it possible to strengthen the Diia infrastructure and information systems that are key to the provision of public e-services. So that Ukrainians will always be able to obtain state services in Diia quickly, conveniently and securely.”

Strengthening the critical infrastructure of Ukraine and supporting the work of state registers in times of war is one of the most important priorities for UNDP, according to which the UN agency systematically supports government partners, said UNDP Resident Representative to Ukraine Jaco Cilliers.

“UNDP is committed to helping the government increase its resilience, ability to function and provide services. With the support of international partners, we are helping to strengthen the country's infrastructure, including IT, because it allows us to protect and ensure uninterrupted provision of public services to citizens,” he said. 

Earlier in 2022, UNDP, with funding from the Government of Sweden, provided powerful generators to the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine to help ensure the continuous operation of key state registries during power outages. The partners also supported the development of the IT infrastructure and electronic registers of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. The computer equipment and technical assistance provided are supporting the ministry in its efforts to digitize access to the most important documents.
