Basics of the home care

The United Nations Development Program in Ukraine invites to participate in training on the basics of home care for adults.

In war conditions, due to various circumstances many elderly people with disabilities remain alone with their problems. Due to physical, mental, or cognitive impairments, they are unable to seek the necessary help on their own, have little knowledge of the available resources or opportunities in their community, and sometimes cannot escape from the war and are left without the necessary support, which significantly affects the quality of their lives. Such people need help and care.

The goal of the training is to prepare individuals to provide social care services at home without conducting entrepreneurial activity.

This training is designed for:

•  individuals who look after adults (aged 18+);

• volunteers and persons who wish to independently provide social care services at home without conducting entrepreneurial activity;

• NGO workers who independently take care of the elderly.

The tasks of the training:

- promoting the assimilation of basic knowledge necessary to ensure the provision of social services in conditions adapted to the needs of certain categories of people;

- formation and development of basic practical skills for caring after certain categories of people, finding solutions to deal with their physical, psychological, spiritual and social problems;

- formation and development of skills of non-conflict communication, attentive behavior and effective communication with individuals in the event of changes in their mental state associated with aging, illness;

- prevention and overcoming of the emotional burnout.

The program of the event was developed in accordance with the Standard training program for individuals, who provide social care services without conducting entrepreneurial activity, approved by the Decree of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine No. 131 dated March 15, 2021. During the training, the participants will get acquainted with the basic principles of providing social services and the training of providers of such services, the features of providing palliative care and providing pain relief therapy; physiological, psychological, social features and needs of certain categories of people; ethics of communication and treatment with persons in need of care; consider the basic rules of providing pre-medical aid in emergency situations and the Procedure for conducting emergency organizational measures aimed at saving and preserving the life of a person suffering from mental disorders in an emergency situation; working out the issue of social protection of the people and the need to establish cooperation with specialists of various structures, acquittance with the phenomenon of emotional burnout, methods and ways of its prevention and overcoming.

The training involves practicing home care trainers.

Estimated dates and training schedule:

• Day 1 – 10 October, Monday, from 13.00 to 17.30

• Day 2 – 11 October, Tuesday, from 13.00 to 17.30

• Day 3 – 13 October, Wednesday, from 13.00 to 14.30

Duration: 3 days

Time and duration of training are approximate. Please consider the possibility of air alarms, during which the broadcast will not be carried out, training will continue after the alarm is over.

The format of the training is online (via the ZOOM platform). Registration for the training will continue until 5 October, inclusively, using the link. Registered and selected participants will receive an email with details no later than 7 October.

Certification criteria

Upon completion of training, participants will receive electronic certificates from UNDP under the following conditions:

  • attendance of at least 2/3 of all sessions
  • active participation during the event
  • the camera is on for at least 2/3 of the sessions
  • filling out the feedback form
