UNDP strengthens national statistical capacity of Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, 25 January 2022: In the framework of the project “Strengthening institutional, statistical and information – technical capacity of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan” jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, an online training workshop on compiling tables of supply and use of goods and services in the concept of the 2008 System of the National Accounts (SNA) was held.

The meeting aimed at building capacities of the specialists of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan to conduct a one-time statistical survey of production costs and distribution of goods for 2022.

The event involved participation of an international expert Ms. Natalia Ustinova, who introduced to the participants of the workshop the general characteristics of the system of tables "input-output" and the purposes for their development, methodological bases for constructing tables of supply and use of goods and services, tables of supply and use of goods and services - the basis of the system of tables "input-output", matrices of imports, trade and transport margins, taxes and subsidies on products and other topics to increase the capacity of the national specialists on  conducting a one-time statistical survey of production costs and distribution of goods (goods, works, services) for 2022.

A joint project between the UNDP and the State Statistics Committee (TurkmenStat) of Turkmenistan “Strengthening institutional, statistical and information-technical capacity of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan” was launched in the beginning of 2021 and aims at strengthening the capacity of TurkmenStat through the implementation of three main components: 1) strengthening the information and technical capacity of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, aimed at improving the quality of statistical data, 2) continuing work on the conceptual transition to the 2008 SNA and expanding the scope, degree, detail and quality of national accounts and complementary economic statistics; 3) increasing the capacity of TurkmenStat for statistical reporting to measure the progress of the SDGs.
