UNDP continues to strengthen national statistical capacity of Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, 14 July 2022: In the framework of the project “Strengthening institutional, statistical and information-technical capacity of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan” jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, the working meeting on financial account to support the implementation of the 2008 System of National Accounts (SNC) was held.

The event gathered representatives of the Ministries and entities of Turkmenistan, including the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Pension Fund of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics, the Central Bank and the State Insurance Organization of Turkmenistan.

The meeting participants were introduced to and discussed the draft of Methodological guidelines for the classification of financial instruments used in the elaboration of the financial account and the balance sheet of assets and liabilities in the system of national accounts of Turkmenistan, which was developed within the joint project.

A joint project between the UNDP and the State Statistics Committee (TurkmenStat) of Turkmenistan “Strengthening institutional, statistical and information-technical capacity of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan” was launched in the beginning of 2021 and aims at strengthening the capacity of TurkmenStat through the implementation of three main components: 1) strengthening the information and technical capacity of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, aimed at improving the quality of statistical data, 2) continuing work on the conceptual transition to the 2008 SNA and expanding the scope, degree, detail and quality of national accounts and complementary economic statistics; 3) increasing the capacity of TurkmenStat for statistical reporting to measure the progress of the SDGs.
