Ashgabat, 29 May 2023: UNDP and UNFPA jointly with the Government of Turkmenistan started the two-day workshop - Development of Special Courses for Civil Servant on Gender-Responsive Governance.

The workshop is organized in the framework of the three-year UNDP project: "Assistance in the Implementation of the National Action Plan of Turkmenistan in the area of human rights for 2021-2025" and within workplans of UNFPA for 2022 and 2023 "Support for strengthening the system and mechanisms to promote gender equality" implemented jointly with the Institute of State, Law, and Democracy of Turkmenistan.

The workshop is facilitated by Ms. Biljana Maletin, UNDP international expert in the field of gender equality. As a result of the workshop, Working Group on Development and Integration of Educational Courses on Human Rights will provide comments and recommendation to the Draft of the course that will further be digitized and introduced to the government for further adoption as a mandatory educational course for civil servants.

The development and integration of this course will also contribute to the implementation of the National Action Plan for Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 and the National Action Plan for Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, as well as the Gender Equality Strategy of the United Nations Development Program for 2022-2025.

The workshop will continue its work tomorrow at the Archabil hotel in Ashgabat.

UNFPA as a specialized UN Agency, which encompasses gender equality in the heart of its mandate contributed by providing the gender related policies, procedures, practices, and knowledge in the country to support in the development of the educational course aligned with international norms and standards. 

UNDP has been a long-term partner of the Government of Turkmenistan in the development of educational courses on Human rights.  Mr. Tomica Paovic, Deputy to Resident Representative of UNDP in Turkmenistan highlighted in his opening remarks that “courses like this help governments make better decisions to achieve gender equality, including on gender mainstreaming policy, which is one of the most effective ways to support and promote women’s empowerment.”
