Turkmenistan and UNDP deepen partnership for sustainable development

Ashgabat, 18 February 2024: Today, the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed several strategic agreements aimed at strengthening and advancing a long-term partnership in achieving national development priorities.

More specifically, UNDP and the Government of Turkmenistan signed the following new initiatives to support the country in accelerating the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development:

  • “Assistance in capacity building of the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan” - the project will be jointly implemented with the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan;
  • “Assistance in Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan” - the project will be jointly implemented with the Office of the Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan;
  • “Support to strengthening institutional and regulatory environment for financial markets development” - the project will be jointly implemented with the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan;
  • “Support to the development of a financial account to further introduce System of National Accounts 2008” - the project will be jointly implemented with the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics;
  • “Support in improving statistics of foreign trade in services, as well as in improving statistical information on the volume of passenger and cargo transportation” - the project will be carried out in collaboration with the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics;
  • Turkmenistan Country Component of the Regional Project on “Promoting Resilient Communities to Prevent Violent Extremism in Central Asia” - the project will be jointly implemented with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Turkmenistan.

 

Furthermore, UNDP and the Government of Turkmenistan will continue its constructive partnership on enhancing the country’s trade capacity and modernizing customs procedures through the Single Window concept. 

 

 

UNDP and the Government of Turkmenistan also signed the extension of ongoing health projects to improve quality health services and provide quality-assured medicines to prevent and control communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) throughout the country.
