UNDP in Turkmenistan, together with the Nature Protection Society of Turkmenistan (NPST) has marked the World Environment Day, June 5, 2022, by cleaning up the Caspian Sea beach.

This initiative engaged the staff of the UNDP and the NPST, as well as local community, who actively embarked on a beach clean-up exercise to set an example to others and encourage public changing attitudes and behavior towards environmentally friendly practices that can have a profound effect for environment conservation.

“The Paris Agreement paved the way for the world to work together and now we are responsible for achieving these goals, which require our collective efforts,” - noted Mr. Batyr Ballyyev, Project Manager of the UNDP/GEF project “Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Green Urban Development in Ashgabat and Avaza”. “We, the people need to provide our individual action to combat climate change, and we need to support governments in building a more sustainable future for all. The behavior of each of us matters and adds value to global climate action.”

“Today, we once again join hands with the UNDP to affirm the importance of environmental education and raise public awareness, as well as engage the local communities in maintaining an environmentally conscious lifestyle,” - noted Merdan Arazmedov, Head of the division of the Nature Protection Society of Turkmenistan.
