Business for Goals Platform supports businesses in Turkey to become climate resilient

Business for Goals (B4G) Platform’s “Business Climate Resilience Project”, carried out with the support of Connecting Business Initiative (CBi), was launched on 12 October 2021.

Within the scope of Business for Goals (B4G) Platform’s Climate Change and Disaster Resilience programme area, and with the support of Connecting Business Initiative (CBi), the “Business Climate Resilience Project” was launched on 12 October 2021 with a stakeholder meeting. Besides, “Climate Resilience Private Sector Seminars” took place on 10 - 17 November, in which climate related disasters that have current and foreseen negative impacts on the private sector were addressed.

B4G, founded in 2019 by a joint initiative of TURKONFED, TUSIAD and UNDP, is a platform that carries out its work in order to increase the contribution of the private sector in achieving Sustainable Development Goals, resilience and inclusive growth, through common ground and collective action under the leadership of private sector.

Since its establishment, B4G has carried out various missions to strengthen businesses’ preparedness to potential disasters and crises and their actions against climate change. By conducting research, developing reports, creating an enabling environment for stakeholders to discuss issues, along with capacity building activities focusing on advancing business resilience against natural and human-induced disasters that economy faces, B4G supports the business world for effective intervention, improvement, and reconstruction.

It is needed to improve the preparation and intervention capacity of the Turkish private sector in order for the business world to have a better understanding on climate change risks and for the adaptation of existing production systems. Within the scope of the “Business Climate Resilience Project”, developed as a response to above-mentioned issues, multidimensional and interrelated risks that are associated with natural disasters will continue to be analyzed and strategies on institutional capacity building for management of climate related risks will be focused on. Furthermore, it is aimed to inquire various phases of fluctuant and deepening risk environments such as awareness, fragility, exposure, damage, and recovery.

In the coming stages of the initiative, trainings on climate related disasters and sectoral solutions will be delivered to the private sector representatives operating in agriculture, food and water sectors.
