COMMUNITY CONSULTATIONS ON DEMOCRACY AND DEVELOPMENT FINAL REPORT: “HAVE YUH SAY”

May 22, 2025

A central element of the UNDP Trinidad and Tobago’s “We Ting” Community Caravan and its pop-up family day activities, was the development and execution of a “Have Yuh Say” (HYS) corner. This HYS initiative was developed to engage various communities across Trinidad and Tobago in order to listen to their perspectives and voices on key issues affecting governance, gender and democracy, social cohesion, and development. Between October 2024 and December 2024, the Caravan visited six communities: Arima, Siparia, Tobago, Diego Martin, Chaguanas, and Movietowne in Port of Spain.

This report synthesises the data collected from all those who came out to talk with us. We received over 600 responses to the HYS questions, and also captured a number of longer and more in depth recorded interviews. The insights gained from our HYS participants are intended to guide UNDP Trinidad and Tobago’s future development work and inform strategies to enhance social cohesion, gender equity, good governance and tackle community level issues.
