Officials from UNDP and the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs mark the official handover of new vehicles and IT equipment a key step forward in modernizing Tanzania’s justice services.

Tanzania’s justice system took a major leap forward. In a continued effort to make legal services faster, fairer, and more accessible, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) officially handed over ICT equipment and vehicles to key institutions under the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs (MoCLA).

The handover ceremony took place at the MoCLA offices in Mtumba, Dodoma. Honorable Minister of Constitutional and Legal Affairs Hon. Dr. Juma Homera, officiated the event, personally presenting the new equipment alongside UNDP Resident Representative, Shigeki Komatsubara.

Tools to Serve People

A modern justice system on efficiency and the newly delivered equipment is designed to provide exactly that. The 300 digital accessories and laptops will help digitize court records, speed up daily legal processes and make data sharing between justice departments much smoother.

Additionally five Land Cruiser Hardtop vehicles were handed over specifically to the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG). These vehicles will tackle one of the biggest hurdles in human rights work: mobility. By putting teams on the road, CHRAGG can reach more communities, ensuring oversight and human rights services extend far beyond city centers.

Behind the scenes, the delivery of these tools is a success story in smart spending. The equipment and vehicles were sourced through UNDP’s global procurement network. By utilizing long-term agreements with manufacturers, the partnership didn't just guarantee high-quality, reliable tools—it also saved approximately USD 400,000. These are crucial funds that can now be reinvested directly back into public services.

A Partnership for the Future

For both the government and UNDP, today's handover was about much more than hardware. It is about building a system that Tanzanians can rely on.

“This handover represents more than the delivery of equipment,” noted Shigeki during the ceremony.” It is an investment in a more efficient, inclusive, and responsive justice system that serves all Tanzanians. Through strong partnerships and innovative approaches, we can accelerate progress toward good governance and the rule of law.”

Dr. Homera echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how these tools fit into Tanzania’s broader national goals.

“This marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to modernize the justice sector,” Dr. Homera said.  “By investing in digital tools and institutional capacity, we are strengthening our ability to deliver timely, efficient, and accessible justice services to all Tanzanians. “As Tanzania continues its push toward a fully digital, modern public sector, UNDP remains it’s a committed partner. By working closely with national leaders to build transparent and citizen centered institutions, initiatives like this prove that the right tools and the right partnerships can deliver real, everyday change for people.

As Tanzania continues its journey toward digital transformation and strengthened rule of law, initiatives like this underscore the value of partnership, innovation, and efficient use of resources in delivering tangible development results.
