Dushanbe – On February 24, 2023, the General Prosecutor Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme in Tajikistan will hold the National Conference on “Implementation of the Strategy on Countering Extremism and Terrorism for 2021-2025: Joint Partnership of Government Agencies and International Organizations” to mark the “International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism”, which is observed annually on February 12.
The conference is part the "Dushanbe Process" which was launched as a result of the High-Level International Conferences on Countering Terrorism and Extremism organized by the Government of Tajikistan in 2018 and 2022. It will gather the key national stakeholders, development partners, civil society organizations, experts from a rage of disciplines involved in implementation of the “Strategy on countering extremism and terrorism in the Republic of Tajikistan” as an in-person and hybrid event.
It is expected that the National Conference will give an additional impetus to the implementation of the National PVE Strategy and serve as a platform to discuss Government-development partners’ joint engagement and cooperation on prevention of violent extremism as well as on return, rehabilitation and reintegration of its nationals returned from conflict zones. It will also allow to take stock of overall progress achieved, discuss existing gaps and agree on further partnership and practical steps towards further successful implementation of the National Strategy.
The agenda of the Conference contains the following core items: Video-message of the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Head of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism Mr. Vladimir Voronkov and welcoming speeches by key national stakeholders; International mechanisms and state programmes of the Republic of Tajikistan to combat terrorism and extremism; Cooperation and support of the development partners in the implementation of the Strategy; Rehabilitation and reintegration of national returnees from conflict zones: goals, methods and challenges.
