UNDP and Ministry of Economic Development Strengthen Collaboration on Tajikistan’s National Development Priorities

As UNDP marks 60 years globally, UNDP’s and MEDT leadership’s first meeting also celebrated 32 years of meaningful partnership and progress in Tajikistan.

Sudipto Mukerjee, UNDP Tajikistan’s Resident Representative, met with Zavqi Zavqizoda, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan. 

During the meeting, Minister Zavqizoda acknowledged UNDP’s extensive global development portfolio, which addresses multiple dimensions of sustainable development. He emphasized the importance of closer collaboration between UNDP and the Ministry to ensure the delivery of joint development results.

The discussions focused on the formulation of Tajikistan's new National Development Programme for 2030, as well as the UNDP Country Programme Document, which has been fully aligned with the priorities and objectives of the national programme.

The parties also addressed the preparation of the Voluntary National Report and the Voluntary Local Report for Dushanbe city. In this context, Sudipto Mukerjee highlighted the launch of the Enhancing Urban Resilience to Disaster Risk and Climate Change in Central Asia project. Funded by the Government of Japan, it is scheduled for implementation in five Central Asian capitals and major cities, including Dushanbe, over the period 2024–2027, to accelerate sustainable urban development and enhance resilience to climate-related and disaster risks.

Another significant topic discussed was the operations of the Secretariat of the National Development Council under the President of Tajikistan, which continues to receive technical support from UNDP to strengthen national development planning and coordination.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to jointly host the national launch of the Human Development Report, followed by a dedicated panel discussion on the role of Artificial Intelligence in shaping human development, reflecting on emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges for Tajikistan.
