On December 20th 2021, UNDP Suriname completed the official handover of a number of items to three agencies under the Ministry of Justice and Police. The items which were procured using repurposed funding under the CariSECURE programme, have a total value of USD 20, 745.00 and were handed over to the Director of the Court of Justice, Mr. Jules de Rijp, the representative of the Police, Commissioner Rambharos and the Deputy Director of Prison Systems, Mrs. Joyce Alfaisi.

The Court of Justice received a complete audio and video system and the Director, Mr. de Rijp expressed his gratitude and indicated that with this donation, the Court will be able to broadcast court cases and hearings to all those involved. This in keeping with the regulations on COVID-19 safe distancing.

The donation to the police included three computers, portable hard drives and related equipment. The equipment will be used to enable the police crime analysis unit (DCIV) to upgrade their efficiency.

The CariSECURE Project (Strengthening Evidence Based Decision Making for Citizen Security in the Caribbean) is a component of USAID’s Youth Empowerment Services (YES) project and is made possible by the support of the American People through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the technical assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The goal of the CariSECURE project is to improve youth crime and violence policy-making and programming in the Southern and Eastern Caribbean through the use of quality, comparable and reliable national citizen security information.
