The UN Development Programme (UNDP) is closely following recent events in the Islamic Republic of Iran and neighbouring countries with deep concern.

We stand by the UN Secretary-General's call for de-escalation and dialogue, stressing that renewed tensions undermine peace, development, and the wellbeing of people across the region.

In a region where development has suffered due to protracted conflicts, this new war is likely to set back hard won social and economic gains and reverse progress on human development.
