The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in South Sudan convened a comprehensive review of the Country Programme, bringing together representatives from the Government of South Sudan, donors, the UN family, civil society organizations, and other development partners. The meeting provided an important platform to reflect on progress made in 2025, share lessons learned and reinforce our shared commitment to delivering results.
Development challenges in South Sudan are complex and interconnected - from governance to health, economic development and environmental sustainability. UNDP’s approach is holistic, ensuring that interventions are mutually reinforcing.
The Country Programme Document is guided by the South Sudan’s Revised National Development Strategy (R-NDS) and is structured around two strategic pillars
1. Inclusive Governance and Sustainable Peace
• Strengthening Governance institutions
• Support the Extended Roadmap for lasting Peace
• Supporting the creation of an enabling environment for South Sudan’s elections
• Strengthening Access to Justice institutions
• Strengthening Public Finance Management
• Support the National commitment on Gender and Women empowerment
2. Sustainable Environment, Economic Empowerment and Resilience
• Youth empowerment and Enterprise development
• Strengthening of the Ministry of Health and State health ministries to coordinate and lead health service delivery
• Trade and economic diversification
• Environment and climate change adaptation
• Resilience: Disaster risk management, climate adaptation, social protection
• Strengthening the national planning process and statistical systems
The Country Programme also align to the UNDP’s Global Strategic Plan 2026 – 2029 which prioritizes four strategies objectives: Prosperity for all, Effective Governance, Healthy Planet and Crisis Resilience, powered by three accelerators of progress; Digital and AI transformation, Gender Equality and Sustainable Finance.
We extend our gratitude to the Government of South Sudan, our donors, development partners, and civil society for their continued engagement and collaboration. The insights and recommendations from this review will strengthen coordination and accelerate the delivery of impactful results.
UNDP South Sudan remains committed to deepening collaboration, aligning efforts and pursuing shared progress. Together with partners and communities, we will continue working toward lasting peace, equality, and sustainable and inclusive development.
