Belgrade, 28 September 2025 – With the goal of inspiring and encouraging girls to develop an interest in digital technologies, the Petlja Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized a one-day web programming workshop for upper primary school students at the Palace of Science. The workshop was part of a two-day educational programme that also included visits to cultural landmarks in Belgrade.

The workshop brought together 44 girls aged 12 to 14 from three primary schools in Novi Pazar, Kikinda, and Kruševac. Accompanied by their teachers, the participants had the opportunity to take their first steps into the world of web programming.

The workshop was led by Aleksandra Savić and Marija Popović, students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade. They introduced participants to the basics of website creation through hands-on exercises, demonstrating that learning digital skills can also be fun. Each participant had the chance to create her own first web page on a topic of her choice. In this way, the girls not only learned the fundamentals of programming but also discovered that technology can serve as a space for creative expression, idea development, and collaboration.

After the workshop, the participants enjoyed a guided tour of the Palace of Science. They were especially intrigued by a new temporary exhibition dedicated to games and interactive technologies, which allowed them to explore how science and entertainment intertwine in the modern digital age. During their visit to Belgrade, the girls also explored some of the city’s landmarks, with a highlight being their visit to the Nikola Tesla Museum, where they learned about the life and inventions of this great scientist.

The web programming workshop for girls was organized as part of the project “Building Key Computing Competencies – Towards the Workforce of the Future”, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Petlja Foundation, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
