Belgrade, March 24, 2023 - In order to contribute to efficient waste management in Serbia, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in cooperation with the Resources Mobilisation Facility financed by Ministry of Finance of Slovak Republic and the German Development Bank (KfW) is inviting local self-governments (LSGs) to apply for the competition for the management of bio-waste as a renewable energy source.

The technology that converts biodegradable waste (e.g. organic waste from households, agriculture, parks and gardens) into biogas is one of the most environmentally friendly solutions for its processing.

For at least three local governments selected under this call, UNDP will develop a study to identify the potential of biowaste available in their area and provide recommendations for investments in biowaste processing to produce biogas and compost.

This initiative aims to promote the implementation of the Green Agenda in Serbia, as the production of compost and biogas from bio-waste will help reduce organic waste and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as create new jobs, especially in rural areas. Interested local governments can find more information about the call on the website https://zelena-agenda.euzatebe.rs/rs/konkursi.

Applications may be submitted until 5:00 p.m. on May 25, 2023. The application form can be downloaded from the following link: https://bit.ly/3lBdiqx.

This public call is published within the project: ,,Potential for Biogas Production from Biowaste in Urban and Suburban regions'', implemented by the United Nations Development Program with the support of the Slovak Republic and the German Development Bank (KfW).
