New Monitors for Better Air in Smederevo

April 12, 2023

Smederevo, 10 April 2023 – With the support received within the project “EU for the Green Agenda in Serbia”, the company of “HBIS” Smederevo improved their production process management by introducing a Programmable logic controller (PLC) system and installing new dust emission monitors.

A specialised PLC computer programme enables real time processing of the data received from eight dust emission monitors and, providing that the measured value approaches the upper limit, activates sound alarm and light signal in order to facilitate a timely reaction of modifying production process parameters.

In this way, “HBIS” Smederevo fulfils its legal duty of continuously measuring dust emission and decreasing the concentration of dust particles in the air, which is of major importance for the local population’s health and preservation of the environment. Additionally, the overview of average daily dust concentration values measured by three of the monitors, is available to the public on the“HBIS” Smederevo webpage.

Buying the PLC system is one of the 16 solutions for accelerated green transition in Serbian economy, which received financial support for implementation, after being selected in four Public Calls launched in 2022 within the “EU Green Agenda in Serbia” project.

We remind you that the new Public Call for innovative proposals in all five areas of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans has been launched in February and will be open until the end of 2026.

The project “EU for the Green Agenda in Serbia” is implemented by UNDP in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden and the European Investment Bank (EIB), with the technical and financial support of the European Union and in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, with additional funds provided by the governments of Sweden, Switzerland and Serbia.
