UNDP Rome Centre announces new PISTA-supported climate investment projects across Africa
May 26, 2026
Rome, 26 May 2026 – UNDP Rome Centre has announced a new cohort of climate investment projects selected for technical assistance through the Platform for Investment Support and Technical Assistance, PISTA, an initiative hosted by the UNDP Rome Centre and backed by the Government of Italy.
The selected projects will receive targeted support to strengthen their investment readiness and help mobilize public and private finance for climate action across Africa. Covering clean energy, climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable mobility, fisheries infrastructure and blue economy value chains, the new cohort reflects the growing need to turn national climate priorities into bankable investment opportunities.
Africa remains one of the regions most exposed to the impacts of climate change, despite contributing only a small share of global greenhouse gas emissions. Yet climate finance continues to fall short of the scale required, particularly for adaptation and resilience. PISTA was created to help close this gap by providing technical assistance and financial structuring support to governments and partners working to bring climate projects closer to implementation.
The new cohort includes projects in Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, Senegal, Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Among them are a grid expansion and solar power initiative along Angola’s Lobito Corridor; a cocoa biomass power plant in Côte d’Ivoire; a green hydrogen-based fertilizer project in Uganda; an electric taxi programme in Dakar; a regional initiative to scale climate-resilient agricultural lending through public development banks in Senegal, Uganda and Tanzania; and a sustainable fisheries investment initiative in Zanzibar.
Together, the projects illustrate how targeted technical assistance can help move climate priorities from concept to investment. By improving project design, strengthening financial structures and addressing risk, PISTA aims to help partners attract larger volumes of capital than grant funding alone could provide.
The new selected projects build on PISTA’s first round of support to 16 projects and further reinforce the platform’s role in advancing climate finance solutions grounded in national priorities and designed for impact.
Governments, development banks, financiers and practitioners interested in exploring collaboration with PISTA can contact the team at pista@undp.org.
