Rising up for SIDS: UNDP's Strategy to Support SIDS in the Next Decade

May 8, 2025

UNDP’s new “Rising Up for SIDS” Strategy sets out a bold and integrated vision to support Small Island Developing States (SIDS) over the next decade in delivering on the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS). Grounded in nearly 60 years of partnership with SIDS, the strategy focuses on unlocking climate and nature action, driving the energy transition, reducing disaster risk, and boosting inclusive economic resilience.

It prioritizes investment in people – particularly women, youth, and vulnerable communities – while leveraging digital transformation, data, and innovative financing to secure sustainable development gains. UNDP works across all three ABAS pillars (people, planet, and prosperity) through country-led, regional, and global actions that turn the unique vulnerabilities of SIDS into opportunities for lasting resilience and growth.
