Greening Moonshot is UNDP's commitment to reduce emissions from global operations by 50 percent by 2030, compared to 2018. Launched in 2019, it puts climate responsibility at the heart of daily operations and strengthens UNDP’s credibility as a partner for climate action worldwide.

This mid-term report takes stock of progress and shows that UNDP is on track. Operational emissions were reduced by 25 percent compared to 2018, while more than 200 greening projects now reduce over 4,000 tCO₂e each year. From Afghanistan to Zambia, through green energy, energy efficiency, electric mobility, building upgrades, travel decisions and changes to daily habits, UNDP offices are translating ambition into practical delivery.

The benefits extend beyond emissions. Every $1 invested in green energy solutions now delivers around $8.5 in energy savings, while Greening Moonshot saves nearly $2 million annually in energy costs. It also improves workplace health and safety, strengthens operational resilience and helps keep services running where grids fail and fuel supply chains are volatile.

Looking towards 2030, UNDP is committed to expand its greening approach to address other environmental criteria and value chain impacts using strong data, strategic decision-making, technical capacity and staff engagement.
