A Decade of Global Support to Social Development

October 31, 2025

This report takes stock of UNDP’s contributions to social development over the past decade, as countries confront slowing poverty reduction, widening inequalities, demographic shifts, climate shocks, and rapid technological change. It highlights how UNDP has supported more than 170 countries and territories to translate global commitments into national action—advancing multidimensional poverty reduction, expanding access to decent work and livelihoods, strengthening adaptive and shock-responsive social protection and health systems, and promoting inclusive governance.

With nearly 1.1 billion people still facing acute multidimensional poverty and half the global population lacking adequate social protection, the report underscores the urgency of building integrated systems that connect income security, services, and employment. It showcases UNDP’s impact in scaling social protection coverage, improving access to health services, supporting job creation and skills development, and fostering more inclusive institutions.

Framed within the ambition of the Doha Political Declaration and the 2030 Agenda, the report affirms that social development is both the foundation and outcome of sustainable development - requiring coherent, people-centred approaches that expand opportunity and resilience for all.
