A UNDP Guidance Note
This Guidance Note aims to strengthen the meaningful participation of women and young people in peace and security processes. It addresses gaps in the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda, focusing on women as essential actors and peacebuilders. Grounded in intersectionality, the note ensures diverse experiences of women are acknowledged, tackling barriers faced by individuals from varied backgrounds and identities.
In alignment with the Youth, Peace, and Security Agenda, the Guidance Note highlights the critical role of young women and men as insider mediators, emphasizing the importance of their voice and agency in shaping conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts.
This resource combines case studies, best practices, and lessons learned from UNDP-supported mediation initiatives worldwide, providing practical guidance to enhance inclusivity in mediation processes. A comprehensive literature review complements these insights, bridging existing research with actionable recommendations.
By advocating for more inclusive and intersectional approaches, the Guidance Note seeks to inspire and equip practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders to build more equitable and effective mediation practices that empower women and youth as key drivers of sustainable peace.
