Ramallah - The Central Elections Commission (CEC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed an agreement, with the support of the Government of Canada, to strengthen democratic governance in the state of Palestine, by enhancing the institutional, technical and operational capacities of the CEC.

The work under the agreement will support the CEC in strengthening its institutional preparedness, technical systems and operational capacities to effectively fulfil its mandate in accordance with Palestinian legislation, international standards and good electoral practices. By investing in strong and accountable institutions, the partnership contributes to transparent, inclusive and credible democratic processes that reinforce public trust.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony at the CEC headquarters in Al-Bireh, in the presence of Dr. Rami Hamdallah, CEC's Chairman; Margunn Indreboe Alshaikh, the Deputy Special Representative of UNDP; and Graham Dattels, Head of Mission of the Representative Office of Canada.

Welcoming the continued partnership, Dr. Rami Hamdallah, Chairman of the Central Elections Commission, said: " This agreement reflects the depth of trust and cooperation between the Central Elections Commission, UNDP and the Government of Canada, and embodies the continuity of our longstanding partnership in supporting and strengthening the democratic process in Palestine. This support will further enhance the Commission's readiness to efficiently and professionally conduct the 2026 Palestinian Legislative Elections in accordance with the highest standards of integrity, transparency and independence, thereby reinforcing the confidence of citizens and international partners in the electoral process.
