The Last Mile: Pakistan’s Path to the SDGs

September 9, 2025

This Special Edition of Development Advocate Pakistan marks the decisive final stretch towards Agenda 2030. With less than five years left, it examines how Pakistan can accelerate progress across all 17 SDGs in the face of fiscal stress, climate shocks, and social inequalities. The issue features perspectives from national leaders, including H.E. Professor Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, and Shaista Pervaiz, National Convener of the Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs. It also brings in global voices such as Kanni Wignaraja, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, alongside contributions from Sweden, China, and the UN system. From financing strategies and subnational visions to women’s leadership, decentralization, and innovation, this edition captures the urgency and ambition needed for Pakistan to finish the SDG race strong.
