Resilient Skopje

October 30, 2022

One third of the total population of the country lives in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, and a significant number of people from the immediate region and the country travel to Skopje on daily basis. For the administration of the city, the task to satisfy the needs of such huge and varying numbers of residents and travelers is a major challenge. The accelerated urban growth poses two main challenges to the city: Provision and delivery of public services and environmental sustainability.

The city’s environmental print is unfavorable, with air-pollution emerging as a dramatic threat for public health with no easy solution in sight.

To respond to those challenges, UNDP assists the City of Skopje to become more resilient to climate changes and other environmental threats and to work with the public administration to help it design and deliver improved services to its citizens. This brochure is a testimonial of the fruitful cooperation and joint efforts that would lead to more resilient Skopje.
