Health

UNDP helped to immediately procure mobile ventilators, COVID test kits, Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), and hygiene materials.

UNDP also procured digital tools for providing health care services online, and to spread information about combating the virus.

UNDP’s Quality Assurance Policy for Health Products, indispensable given the risk associated with the distribution of substandard or falsified health products, is now being applied to medical supplies. And our newly launched Sustainable Procurement in the Health Sector guidance note is a step towards strengthening greener health systems in the long term.

Here's what we're doing:

  • UNDP’s global procurement system is effective, flexible and transparent, and therefore provides access to top suppliers of goods & services. This has led a number of countries to undertake emergency procurements in response to the COVID-19 pandemic through UNDP global procurement system.
  • In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, UNDP brought together development partners in a joint effort to procure 40 urgently needed mobile ventilators for the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo which were delivered in May and June 2020, and 52,300 PCR tests for the National Institute for Public Health (NIPH).
  • UNDP provided necessary equipment to the Volunteers Call Centre within the NIPH where 28 volunteers were selected to respond to queries and advice the public where to find solutions to their concerns.
  • Together with our partners, UNDP has launched two crowdfunding campaigns to secure financing for critically needed medical supplies.

Throughout the year, we delivered life-saving equipment and medical items
