Lviv, Ukraine, 13 October 2026 — Lyceum No. 80 of Lviv City Council has been restored. The repair work was carried out under a project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine in partnership with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), and with financial support from the Government of Spain. Today, Deputy Ambassador of Spain to Ukraine Antonio Santamaría Pargada visited the renovated school.

The restoration has improved conditions for 755 students and 85 staff members of the lyceum. Under the project, the old asbestos-slate roofing was replaced with a modern metal roof, fully eliminating leaks.

In addition, outdated wooden windows and damaged metal-plastic windows were replaced with modern energy-efficient ones, which help retain heat and maintain comfortable conditions indoors throughout the school year.

Before work began, public consultations brought together students, teachers, parents, and local authorities to discuss the school's needs and renovation priorities. This collaborative approach ensured the restoration focused on the changes that mattered most to the children and staff who use the space every day.The school's focus on foreign languages is one of its defining features. The Lyceum has a long-standing tradition of paying considerable attention to the study of Spanish and English, fostering a multicultural learning environment and taking part in international educational and cultural projects.

Carried out from March to August 2026, the repairs were made possible through financial support from the Government of Spain. This funding helps improve learning conditions and supports communities that continue to educate children despite the ongoing challenges of war

Ihor Korda, Director of Lyceum No. 80, said: “For our school family, this restoration is not only about the building, but also about a comfortable space where children can learn, grow and build their future. We’re sincerely grateful to our partners for their support and care for our students.”

Deputy Ambassador of Spain to Ukraine Antonio Santamaría Pargada emphasised: “By supporting the restoration of Ukrainian schools, Spain is investing in Ukraine’s future. Every restored school means more opportunities for children to learn and grow – even in times of war.”

UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine Auke Lootsma said: “Restoring schools is, above all, an investment in people. In partnership with Spain, we’re helping communities create more comfortable, energy-efficient learning environments focused on the needs of children and teachers.”
